By now the news is out and I’ve received a deluge of email asking for details, so here they are. For those that don’t have the 43folders RSS feed piped directly into a neural connection and haven’t yet subscribed to the Omni blog as penned by the lovely and talented Linda, here’s the scoop: After over a year of collaboration I’m officially joining The Omni Group!
In terms of historical review: We first “dated” when I wrote Kinkless, then there was this whole OmniFocus collaboration which was sort of like getting pregnant. That would make this the next logical step: a shotgun wedding. Or maybe an elopement. In any case, we’re getting hitched and I couldn’t be more excited.
If you’ve had the opportunity to meet or speak with teh Omni, you’ll have a sense of what a swell bunch of folks they are. “People” rank number one on their list of priorities, and by people I mean all of us as users. For a year now Merlin and I have been talking weekly with Ken Case, Tim Wood and the rest of the Omni Crew and I’ve been very impressed at the care, concern and advocacy they have all voiced for doing the right thing for users. Time after time, development decisions reflect careful consideration of how they will impact real people. Simply put, Omni is at the top of the game when it comes to the craft, art, and science of producing mac software.
After this year of working together it seemed like the natural next step to hook up formally. Right now I’m here in Seattle getting my bearings and preparing to pull up stakes after 12 years in Asia. What exactly will I be doing? We discussed positions including “Chief Bottle Washer” and, my personal favorite “Minion”, but decided that I’ll be going back to my “roots” and will be working in OmniMarketing. For those that were worried I might somehow manage to get my hands dirty with code, rest assured I will be leaving that to the professionals ;) The good news for me is that I get to continue to work closely with all the big brains behind the apps.
Great things are in store and OmniFocus 1.0 is going to be just the beginning. Stay tuned!

Re: Gettin' Hitched
So why are we finding out last on your site, huh? Seriously, congratulations are in order for you two.
I’ve been a semi-vocal user/tester/previewer of OmniFocus and have been continually impressed by the response from The Omni Group to our feedback. I can only hope working for them, or with them, is equally as rewarding.
Re: Gettin' Hitched
Congratulations. Hope this doesn’t mark the end of your blog posts on computer spotlessness. Best wishes.
Re: Gettin' Hitched
Congratulations! Both to you and to the Omni Group.
Rob (an Omni-addict)
HAHA!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
That is great. Congratulations to you. I remember my first comment on kinkless maybe 1 1/2 years ago suggesting exactly that :-) This really feels very right! Good luck and much success, Axel
Re: Gettin' Hitched
Congrats and thanks in advance for continuing to share your thoughtfulness and user-centered attitude. And welcome (back?) to the USA!
Here's an idea for the Honeymoon
Now that your an insider, how about this idea:
Continue to work with Omni to finish up Omnifocus, then push them to seamlessly integrate it with OmniPlan. THEN:
Start selling OmniOfiice! The final piece in the Mac Software portfolio. Every Mac comes with iLife, now with numbers everyone can add iWork, and to complete the perfect system for productivity: OMNI OFFICE! (ta da!)
Which would include: OmniFocus (of course) - which would be integrated with the more overarching OmniPlan and completed with the very excellent OmniOutliner and OmniGraffle with OmniDazzle thrown in for fun.
Of course it would be easy to include Omniweb as well if you wanted to boost browser share.
A Mac loaded with iLife, iWork, and OmniOffice (or iOmni?) would be a perfect productivity suite (sweet!) — PC users just converting would wet themselves (again.)
OK. Now make it so. (Oh, and don’t forget the kick ass iPhone integration!)
Damn. This idea is so good, Apple will be buying Omni in no time — make sure you get some stock options!
Way to Go Ethan!
Congratulations, Ethan! It sounds like this is a terrific match.
(Just don’t start telling folks that you two met on the Internet :-)

Congratulations ! i wish you all the best.
Re: Gettin' Hitched
Congratulations. I’ve been using kinkless for some time. I will be trying Omnifocus soon.
Omni is probably giving you a nice relocation package, but if you’re checking out the Craigslist rental market, give my company’s free site http://seattle.cribq.com a try. Seattle is the base city.
Thanks for all your work.
